Where to start

Where you stand right now — and how we can help.

No separation starts from the same point. Some are still weighing whether to separate at all. Others have already decided and simply want it to move forward. And some only act because their partner already has. Find your situation below — and what it means for you.

Orientation

Understanding what is at stake

You might be considering a separation yourself. Or your partner may have just brought it up, and you don’t know what that means for you. Either way, nothing has been decided yet — you want to understand what’s actually at stake first.

Typical questions
Separation maintenance, custody and access, how a divorce proceeds, marital property (Zugewinnausgleich).
Note
Applies regardless of who raised the idea of separating first.
Consultation, €300 / hour A conversation, not a case. Nothing moves forward without you.

Decided

The decision is made

The decision is made — often after more than a year apart. You already know roughly what’s involved and don’t want to delay the divorce any longer, regardless of cost.

Typical questions
Less “what does this mean”, more “how fast can this go” and “what do I need to file”.
Note
Even when money is tight, the decision stands regardless.
Usually statutory (RVG), occasionally hourly Statutory fees based on the case value — you know roughly what to expect in advance.

Responding & protecting yourself

Your partner has already acted

You haven’t made a final decision yourself. But your partner has already engaged a lawyer, or proceedings are already under way. Whether it’s still just a threat or a case already in progress, what matters now is that you’re represented.

Typical questions
Usually few — mainly “what’s coming” and “what do I need to do now”.
Note
Whether it’s an early warning or an active case — we’re here for both.
RVG or €300 / hour Depending on where things stand and the work involved, we’ll agree together on what fits.

In Brief

What is the RVG?

The German statutory fee schedule sets fees based on the value of the case. You will know roughly what to expect in advance. How that value is calculated is explained in detail under Cost and Process.

What is an hourly fee?

Billed by actual time spent — useful when the scope is still open, such as pure consultation.

Not sure where you stand?

That’s normal — a short conversation is usually enough to work it out.
